MY STORY

Since I was a little kid, I had heard stories about Tasaaga, the school my dad’s best friend helped found in Uganda. There was always the promise that one day I would get to go but I was always too young. Last summer I was finally old enough to go and I spent a  couple weeks teaching Soccer and English to the elementary school children. Soccer is my passion and it was amazing to watch the joy it brought the kids when they played. It made me think of when I was that age and joined my first club team.

I grew up surrounded by fashion and I love it.  A few months before my trip, I asked Bruhan, the head of school, if I could design a few T-shirts for his students, like the ones we have at my school. He thought it was a great idea.

Before leaving Uganda, I asked Bruhan if there was anything I could do to support the school when I got home. He said they needed new textbooks, eye tests for everyone and a school bus to take the kids to soccer games.

On the plane ride back to Los Angeles, I decided that once my high school’s soccer season started, I would organize a small cleats drive and create a website to sell the Tasaaga t-shirts I had designed for the students.
